On April 10th, 2006, Mr. Bernard Gomez (President of the Association for the Protection of the Art of China in Europe) and Ms. Huang Xinlan (President of Xi'an Metro Real Estate Development Co., Ltd.) donated a valuable Chinese cultural relic lost overseas – the bronze tripod of the Warring States Period – to Emperor Qin's Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses Museum.
After verification, experts have confirmed that the relic named ‘‘Yiyang Bronze Tripod'' could be traced back 2300 years ago. The historical object has in fact important reference value for the study of communications between the Qin Kingdom and the ‘‘Three Jin Area'', of the weights and measures, as well as the characters used in the Qin and Han Dynasties.
After years of travel through land and sea, the valuable treasure was finally found back and benevolently returned to its home land by Mr. Gomez and Ms. Huang.
Since this unique event deserved permanent remembrance, the Cultural Relic Bureau of Shaanxi and the Emperor Qin's Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses Museum compiled a book that would be a faithful record of the donation activity and serve to officially commemorate this historical event.
The book is a large valuable documentary which reveal the elegance of the Yiyang Bronze Tripod with exquisite pictures. It also contains a selection of research articles, a record of the recovery and donation process, as well as a collection of the different media reports on the donation event.
The book also serves to introduce the great deeds of A.P.A.C.E. which has made significant contributions to protect Chinese cultural relics lost overseas.
Mr. Gomez and A.P.A.C.E. wish to thank once again all those who have collaborated to this great piece of work.
